Pink Plug by Vane Russo
Starting tomorrow, I will unplug- for one whole week. When I originally agreed to spend a week on the Outer Banks of North Carolina with one of my bestest friends, Katsy Johnson, to help her celebrate her 40
th birthday, she told me they had wireless internet at the house they rented. Yesterday, I found out this isn’t true. Not that agreeing to celebrate with Katsy would have been contingent upon wireless internet- that girl is my sister and I would do ANYTHING for her. But, uh…I have to admit I felt huge relief when I thought I would be able to check in on all you Pinkies via Owning Pink, Twitter, Facebook, email, etc. Turns out the Universe has other plans for me, and that I must trust the community I have helped create with Owning Pink. Joy Mazzola, Owning Pink’s way-qualified Editor-In-Chief, will be running the show without me starting tomorrow. And know what? This is a really good thing.
Connect With You By Disconnecting From the Internet
It’s easy to get so wrapped up in the details of life that we forget how good it is for our mojo when we disconnect from the ever-present connections we create around the world. For one week, I will simply be unavailable to anyone but Katsy, my husband, and my mother, who is flying out today to watch Siena so Matt and I can take our first one week vacation away from Siena. It’s time! Although my routine is comfortable, and I love my life, I know I will come back recharged, with more to bring to my family, my health, my sanity, and each of you.
When was the last time you turned everything off and spent time with yourself? Do you use the internet as a substitute for real, live experience? Are you spending more time with your virtual friends than your real ones? If you’re like me, you may worry that a vacation from the community/business/online life you’ve built will crumble without you. But remember that old saying, “If you love something, set it free…” This is where faith comes in. I have to trust- in Joy, and even more so, in you Pinkies- that what we have built together goes deeper than a few tweets or emails or posts. I must believe that you Pinkies will understand that I have to recharge my own mojo sometimes.
Help Me Let Go, Please!
So please help. Joy will be posting new posts you Pinkies have helped write so I could take a week off. And I wrote one in advance that she’ll post next week. Help Joy, me, and Owning Pink by sending love via your comments on the posts your fellow Pinkies have written. And please post for me on Facebook- keep the love alive while I’m gone! And when Joy tweets for me on Twitter this week, welcome her with the same incredible generosity and kindness you send to me. Pretty please??? I would be SO grateful.
And I promise, when I return, I’ll have extra mojo to spread around. How ‘bout you Pinkies? When are you going to unplug to recharge your mojo? Set a date. Make a promise to yourself, and trust that those who care about you will still be here for you- stronger than ever- when you plug in again.
Unplugging for now, but back with a vengeance soon,
Lissa

By Leslee Horner (not verified) on Saturday, 06/20/2009 at 1:53 PMOn the last day of my trip to see my family at the beginning of June, my mother told me she thought I had an addiction to the computer. I have been consciously trying to limit my use, but it is sooo difficult, especially since Twitter and I are still newlyweds! So, I applaud you for this week off and I know you will enjoy it! Make sure to keep a notebook handy for all the great inspiration that will surely find its way to you!

By Janet (not verified) on Saturday, 06/20/2009 at 7:22 AMYou go disconnect Ms Pink and you'll find the world won't end in a week and we'll all still be here when you get back. I have been known to disconnect myself from time to time (imagine that!)and although it's hard at first it's amazing how quickly you adapt and find the time for other things. Relax, re-charge and enjoy.
