Please welcome Mojo Mentor Alice Langholt back to the Owning Pink mainstage. For those who don’t know, Alice is a Reiki master and Pink Goddess with an enormous spirit and buckets of wisdom to share. Today she talks about Owning our bodies and spirits by grounding our energy. Namaste, Alice, and enjoy, Pinkies!
“You’re grounded!” Those were words I dreaded hearing as a teen, and they still bring a cringe when I think of them being said to (or yelled at) me. I only recently learned another meaning for “being grounded,” and why it’s important to be grounded. (Ha! Never imagined myself thinking it would be important for me to be grounded! I swear, those words still have the echo of a sting. Ah, well!)
Grounding your energy is like being a lightning rod. All of the active and excited emotions that charge through us during the day – anxiety, anger, worry, uncertainty – can be sent straight down through us, out our feet and into the Earth, returning us to a state of calm if we ground our energy. If we don’t, the energy of these emotions just spins around in our auras until it finds a place to land or lodge – where it sits until it is released, or else it builds up and festers, eventually making us sick. So how do we get this excess to release into the ground? Here are some ways:
Be A Tree & Find Your Roots
Be a tree. No, we’re not in drama class. I know it may sound hokey, but imagine – visualize – that you are a tree. Your feet have roots growing down from your soles into the Earth. Deep down, down, down, through the core itself. Let the excess energy you have drain down your roots into the Earth. Breathe. Then, imagine the roots bringing the cleansing energy and heat from the core of the Earth up the roots into your feet, and up your legs, trunk, heart, neck, and out the top of your head. This can really cleanse your energy. With practice, you can feel it working.
Let The Universe Fill Your Cup
There’s a final step to do. Now visualize energy from the Universe coming in the top of your head and moving to meet the Earth energy right at your heart. The two are now joined, Universe and Earth, through you, meeting at your heart chakra (energy center). Feel this energy fill you. You have released the negative energy you didn’t need, and filled yourself with cleansing and reviving energy that’s always there for you.
My first time doing this, it took me a while. Probably, it took me 5 minutes to get all of this visualizing done, and really feel it work. Now I can do it in 30 seconds, although friends of mine can ground nearly instantly. I know I need more practice.
Let Your Breath Guide You
There’s breathing to go along with this, too. Breathe from waaay down there. Breathe from your woo-woo, ladies, yes, imagine yourself bringing the breath in all the way down at the root chakra level (translation=vagina!). Let it start down there, fill up all the way to the top of your head, and when you exhale, let it take away everything you don’t need – all tension, stress, annoyance, irritation, pain, upset, or hurt. Breath is life. Use it. Breathing this way is also grounding, and it’s the other half of the tree exercise.
How often should you ground? Many, many times a day. One of my friends grounds 100 times a day. Another says he grounds about 20 times. I try to ground whenever I’m thinking about it, whenever I feel annoyed, worried or angry, and before and after any energy work I may be doing.
What’s The Point of Being Grounded?
Why do this? It’s actually meditation, even though it’s a quickie that can be done any time of the day as often as needed. Meditation helps you realign and balance, and reduces stress. It also increases intuition and energetic connection, so it’s very important in energy work. Even if you don’t do energy work, this can have the benefit of restoring your breathing to normal, calming your adrenaline levels, and releasing stress. In short – it can help your health and well being.
So try it. Let me know how it goes for you. I’ll be working on it here too.
Hey mom! I’m grounded again!
Only this time, I’m not fuming about it.
Grounded PINK love to you all,
Alice

Thank you for this Alice! Learning to ground (after I gave up my resistance to it — imagine actually NOT WANTING to be grounded??) totally changed my life. Colors are brighter, food tastes better, conversations are more stimulating (and I’m less afraid to have them) … turns out that fully inhabiting your body is a good thing. A VERY good thing. Hooray for being human, and for the beautiful balance of heaven and earth we embody. Thanks for this great post.
thanx , you are great .
Thanks Joy and gazetna for your lovely comments!
Joy I do understand not wanting to be grounded – I went through a phase like that not too long ago! It was during a time of energetic shift for me – incorporating new energies, and needing to be running Reiki every couple of hours to fend off some anxiety that would creep in if I didn’t – weird feeling! It lasted a few weeks, and then subsided. I actually enjoyed it – so I know what you mean literally!
But being grounded helps so much, I’m finding, especially with my energy work and the day to day business of being a working mom. There are so many reasons to stay grounded, and it’s much better on all fronts when I remember to do so.
Love and light to you all!
Pinkly,
Alice
I had a premauture kundalini awakening which started about 10 years ago and caused me all sorts of challenges. I’ve had to learn about grounding my energies and this article is fab. THANKYOU. I have printed the picture with the red tree and I love it. I can now allow all the insights and wisom to manifest because I can ground myself. YIPEE !
