Hiya, Pinkies. Mojo Mentor Fred Kraziese turned me on to this amazing video clip, which he posted on his site. I was so blown away by it that I had to post it here. Wowwee. Take a gander at this challenge to all of us:

Kiva keeps coming onto my radar. This is a fantastic reminder about its existence, not to mention the power of helping just. One. Girl. Love it, and love you all! xo

By Lissa Rankin on Tuesday, 08/25/2009 at 5:52 AMI just showed the video to my husband and daughter. 3 yr old Siena said, "So if I'm good, you're gonna buy me a cow?" So, uh, maybe she doesn't quite get it yet.
But Matt, who lived in Africa as a Peace Corps volunteer in Niger and then went on to do food distribution on the Sudan border for Care International, is well aware of the Girl Effect. It's such a LONG road for women there. If we can help the shift in any small way, we help us all as One Tribe.

Thank you for sharing this video, the kiva.org website, and most of all, this inspiring part of your tradition with us.
Much Love, Alice

By Fred (not verified) on Tuesday, 08/25/2009 at 5:23 AMLissa,
This is an incredible organization. They also have a Facebook page, http://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Girl-Effect/14159872375.
I've been involved with Kiva (http://kiva.org) for several years. They provide micro-loans to women in developing countries. This is what I do for my nieces and nephews (I don't have children of my own!). On their birthdays and for Christmas, they get Kiva gift certificates. We then go and pick out a deserving person somewhere in the world to give the loan to. And then together we keep in touch and watch as the loan is repaid. Once it is completely repaid, they can either re-loan it, or I let them take it for their own personal use. They always re-loan . . . they realize that they live with abundance and that there are many millions of people in the world who are far worse off. It's a powerful lesson for a child.
Peace. Fred
