One day, our Pinkest of Pink editors, Joy Mazzola, said, "I am not done, but I am not incomplete." Grabbing a magic marker, I wrote it on our Pink wall of graffiti at Owning Pink headquarters because I thought it reflected how so many of us feel. We are works in progress, but we are still whole, enough, perfect, just the way we are.
Today, I was hiking a mountain West Marin, and the Alanis Morissette song "Incomplete" played on my Ipod. Listening to the words she wrote in the aftermath of her divorce, I was inspired by how far Alanis has come since You Oughta Know! No matter where we have been, we can all find redemption.
I just couldn't resist sharing her beautiful song with you Pinkies. And Alanis, you ARE complete, darling, just like the rest of us.
INCOMPLETE
By Alanis Morissette
One day I’ll find relief
I’ll be arrived and I’ll be a friend to my friends who know how to be friends
One day I’ll be at peace
I’ll be enlightened and I’ll be married with children and maybe adopt
One day I will be healed
I will gather my wounds forge the end of tragic comedy
I have been running so sweaty my whole life
Urgent for a finish line
And I have been missing the rapture this whole time
Of being forever incomplete
One day, my mind will retreat, and I’ll know god and I’ll be constantly one with her night dusk and day
One day I’ll be secure, like the women I see on their 30th anniversaries
I have been running so sweaty my whole life
Urgent for a finish line
And I have been missing the rapture this whole time
Of being forever incomplete
Ever unfolding
Ever expanding
Ever adventurous and torturous
But never done
One day, I will speak freely
I’ll be less afraid
And measured outside of my poems and lyrics and art
One day I will be faith-filled
I’ll be trusting and spacious authentic and grounded and whole
I have been running so sweaty my whole life
Urgent for a finish line
And I have been missing the rapture this whole time
Of being forever incomplete
Reveling in the wholeness of each and every one of you,
Lissa

By Erin (not verified) on Tuesday, 10/13/2009 at 6:40 AMI am carefully guarding my thoughts this week, changing them from "I have horrible sinusitis" to "I am whole." Every time I woke up last night I thought it: I am whole. I will think it over and over again this week: I am whole. And I came to work and read this post and it was like a little wink from the Universe, a little nod that this will work. :)
