I went to visit my family in Florida. We stopped in to have dinner at a restaurant that’s a hybrid quick-service / sit-down type of place. We love the food there and it was on the way home. I sat at the table with my two nieces, brother-in-law, and sister. The whole place was filled with tables like ours except for one person across the way, seated at a table by himself.

I’m just back from Santorini, Greece. I was there for a little over a week on a yoga retreat. The retreat itself was just okay, though I found that the work I did on myself was far more helpful. The whole time I was in Greece, I felt myself calling love. Everywhere I went there seemed to be references to love and relationships, to renewal and the embracing of change. I discovered that over the last few years, despite my desire for love, I have been afraid to love.

Several weeks ago I had two strangely juxtaposed relationship experiences that really helped me to shed some light on my current quest for love. I realized that I’m done with dating guys who are just around, available, and interested. I’m done with the wining, whining, and dining. I’m done having a relationship that I know isn’t going in the direction I want it to go, just for the sake of having a relationship at all. As my life coach, Brian, reminds me on a regular basis, “You get what you settle for.”

I don’t know a lot about relationships. I’ve had the good, the bad, the ugly, and the confusing. I’ve had good that went bad, and bad that went good. Some last a while, and others fall away all-too-soon. Sometimes there’s a reason and sometimes there isn’t. They’re only commonality is that they are all unique.

I’m humbled and flattered to be a part of the blogging team at Owning Pink. I found my way to Lissa, Joy, and the fabulous Pinkies via Twitter. Lissa started following me and I was intrigued by her company’s name. I tweeted with her for a bit and quickly realized how inspiring she is. I asked if I could interview her for my Examiner.com column on entrepreneurs. To my delight she agreed and we’ve been pink pals ever since.
I’m ready to say good-bye to winter. I’m not someone who dreads the cold – I actually enjoy it. I like sweaters, boots and jeans. I like the snow and the look of the winter sky. I like cocooning. Johanna, one of my yoga teachers, was quick to remind us that without winter, there can be no spring; without death there is no rebirth.

Happy Monday, dearest Pinkies. Christmas week has arrived and the New Year is right around the corner, which has me reflecting, pondering, and dreaming. Because this year was filled with so much change for me, as it was for all of us, I’m also reflecting on all of the key moments in my life that really brought me to where I am today. And that leads me to wonder what moments you’re reflecting on, too.

Hello dearest pinkies! I thought of you all today when I heard about a poem by Mary Oliver, "The Summer Day," long a mainstay of college admissions processes and orientations. (I've pasted it at the bottom of this post.) My sister, Weez, tells me that it is my great hope in life to be employed as a professional student. She's right.
