Sitting in the doctor’s lounge with the other OB/GYN physicians while I waited for a patient to deliver, I tore off the plastic wrapping from a Chinese fortune cookie, cracked open the cookie, and read the enclosed slip of paper with decided hesitation. I had been skeptical of fortune cookies ever since they had dissed me.
It's Christmas, and my greatest gift is the love of my husband, Matt. Here's my Christmas letter to him.
To my darling Matt-
I always thought my father was simple. Not in the mentally-handicapped kind of way, but definitely not complicated like me. Sure, we had things in common. Like me, he went to medical school, completed a residency, and practiced as a physician, so I certainly didn’t consider him unintelligent.
Last night, I was in the hot tub with my daughter Siena, and I was crouched on the floor of the tub, trying to talk eye-to-eye with her. With an exuberant look on her face, she suddenly pointed to me and cried, “Pink Mommy! You’re Pink Mommy!” I couldn’t have been more delighted. After all, how could she have known how hard I’ve been trying to develop the curriculums for my Owning Pink workshops? Certainly, my friends have been embracing my Pinkness for years now, but my two-year old? I had never mentioned it to her before.

I shocked Yoni today. (Have I told you about Yoni yet? She's my inner feminine- my vagina, uterus, ovaries, and little voice inside. We've become friends, and we chat from time to time.) I didn’t mean to, but I think I snuck up on Yoni, taking her a little off guard, when she was reading a book or maybe watching some old Sex and the City reruns.
