Are You Forced To Work To Pay The Bills And Keep The Benefits?

Discover your purpose

My heart SINKS every time I hear a woman talk about how or why she feels she must defer her dreams.

Just last week I talked with a woman over a Discover Your Purpose Strategy Session and she shared how she feels “forced to work to pay the bills and keep the benefits.” Even though she knows God has a very different purpose for her, fear of failure keeps her from acting on it.

I shared with her the secret for understanding your Purpose, the work you were put on the planet to do.

What’s that secret? It’s to start seeing every event in your life as training.

Your life is always speaking to you. It’s preparing you to access your gifts and (more importantly) to share them with others. And that’s true even if you can’t hear or see what life is saying right at this very moment. Trust me, though: even the toughest event is a message from your life telling you what you’ve been put on earth to do.

The event that spoke most clearly to me was feeling like a failure at my hospital job. My mom’s event was a chronic illness that no doctor could understand, and which made the doctors treat her as if she was crazy because they couldn’t understand it. We’ve both learned to see these events as teachable moments, signposts on the way to discovering our true purpose.

But once you’ve gotten the message, what then? What if you don’t think you’re ready? What if there’s something in the way of pursuing your purpose-driven work?

Well, if that’s the case, then let me let you in on another secret.

I want you to remember this because it’s SO, SO IMPORTANT:

Your challenges were given to you for a reason. God, the Universe, All-That-Is (whatever you want to call it!), gave you your challenges so that you could face them.

And you have the solution to those challenges right now, inside you.

In fact, whatever your challenge is, you have probably already solved it for yourself.

You may have to spend some time digging that solution out from the self-doubt that you’ve buried it under, but you were given this challenge in order to find the solution.

That’s so important, I’m going to say it again: whatever challenges you face, you were given them in order to find out how to overcome them. Once you grasp that, you’ll discover there’s an even bigger revelation in store.

What is that? Well, now you have something to offer those around you: your solution. It’s a gift, an answer, an essential item, for other women who are struggling with the same problems you are.

Now all you need to do is get that gift out into the world.

And here’s the clincher: You don’t need to be any farther along the path than you are right now to offer real healing to others who need it.

You only need to be a few steps ahead of them on the path. In fact, because you’re closer to them—because you’re so familiar with where they are and what they’re struggling with, they’ll be able to hear you in a way they might not hear anyone else.

In fact, those women only a few steps behind you want to hear it from YOU. They simply could NOT hear it from anyone else.

So—I get all the time from my clients that they don’t feel ready to step out of their comfort zone and into the land of their dreams.

They think they need to do all these things, from lose weight to get a new credential or certification before they can start being happy or do what they truly love.

And it’s not true at all. It’s not even close. Holding off on sharing your gift until you’re perfect isn’t prudence or humility: it’s simply fear masquerading as rational thought. And fear is NEVER the truth.

The truth is you could figure this out.

The truth is that when you SEE an opportunity, it means YOU ARE READY to take action. It is UNIVERSAL LAW that you would not have seen the opportunity if you were not ready.

If you weren’t ready it would not have even entered your consciousness. So you have your big goal or dream, and you’re reading this article right now FOR A REASON. YOU ARE READY.

You simply must start from where you are. Where you are may seem undesirable or less-than-ideal, but guess what?

VERY soon, if you take action, you’re not where you are anymore. You’re on down the road, and you have even more insights to share with those behind you.

Think of anyone you respect in your field. (For me it’s Louise Hay, Marianne Williamson, and Byron Katie.) They all started at the beginning.

They all started fresh and new, just like you…but they took the leap and started sharing their divine gifts and asked people to work with them. So why not you?

It can feel daunting to contemplate this (I still feel daunted every day!), but when you truly believe that you have a God-given gift that people need – and again, I hope more than anything that I have conveyed that to you by now – it becomes less daunting.

And again, when you TRULY believe you were given a God-given gift, you focus less on how hard it is to get your gift into the world and MORE on how it would be a disservice to God not to.

And if you don’t believe me, there’s a quote from Marianne Williamson that you need to hear:

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?’ Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God.

Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us.

It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.

So here’s my takeaway from that: There are people who need to receive their healing, their liberation, their transformation from YOU. In fact, YOU are the only person they can get it from.

I believe that you and I could give the SAME message, but some would only be able to hear it from me and some would only be able to hear it from YOU.

God, the Universe, All-That-Is would not have made you if YOU weren’t meant to help others in a way that ONLY YOU could help. And I hope knowing that gets you out of thinking that you’re not good enough / don't know enough / not ready yet, and gets you out of that way of thinking FOREVER.

Because people are waiting for you RIGHT NOW. So when is the right time to start? RIGHT NOW.

And yes, of course, it’s all been said before. But not by YOU.

Your people are waiting for YOU. Right now. And, quite simply, it’s a disservice to them and your God-Universe-All-That-Is Gifts NOT to give it to them.

It truly is YOUR TIME to put an end to the confusion and doubt and step into bigger shoes.
