Do You Dream Of Free Travel?

travel free

This fall, my soul brother Chris Guillebeau and I found ourselves on parallel, simultaneous book tours, which led to lots of texting, near misses in airports, and shared shelf space at book stores where we did signings only days apart. For the few months of my book tour, I had just an inkling of what his travelbug life must look like (although it’s hard to compare book touring in Florida to rocketing off to Easter Island).

I’m sure he needs no introduction because Chris is all over the internet with his fabulous blog about unconventional strategies for life, work, and travel. And his fabulous book The Art Of Non-Conformity, which I reviewed here, is sure to skyrocket to the NY Times Bestseller’s List. And you’ll be hearing more from him here at Owning Pink, since he is joining our team of Owning Pink Bloggers!

Attention, globe-trotters!

But right now, I want to shine a light on one of my favorite rock stars because he is about to launch a fabulous new resource to help all of you travelbugs realize your globe-trotting dreams. Those of you who follow his escapades know that Chris is quite the jet-setter. In fact, I couldn’t even come close to keeping up with him on his unconventional book tour, which took him to all 50 states and every Canadian province. For his next book, due out Spring 2012, he’s planning to visit every continent. Whew! But it doesn’t surprise me. Chris is just that kinda guy.

In fact, one of the things on Chris’s bucket list is to visit all 192 countries in the world. So far he’s up to 149 out of 192. Not bad for a young dude, eh?

So how does he do it? How can he swing it? And more importantly, how can he afford it? Well, he’s figured out the secrets of how to hack the travel industry and let his frequent flyer miles work for him. And he’s about to unveil those secrets in the Travel Hacking Cartel, an online forum where Chris will share with his community the secrets of how to fulfill your dreams of travel without breaking the bank.

Bring Your Unconventional Dreams To Life

Chris is all about helping people make their unconventional, non-conformist dreams come true, and the launch of the Travel Hacking Cartel will certainly help many achieve their goals. But you have to do your part towards bringing your dreams to life. Here are some words of wisdom from Chris to get you inspired:

  1. First, decide what you really want. Studies have shown it's hard to get something if you're not sure what it is. If time and money were no object, who would you be? What would you do?
  2. Never make decisions based on the perceived limitations in front of you. There is almost always a way around perceived limitations. Instead, make decisions based on what you identified in Step 1.
  3. Take small, immediate steps toward getting what you want. Don't wait long; take the first step right now. Possible small steps toward traveling where you want include reading a guidebook at the library or bookstore, saving $2 a day, scheduling a date in your calendar even if you're not sure it will work, etc.
  4. Review the steps on a regular basis. If it's your life dream to go to Destination x, write it on a post-it note and put it where you'll see it everyday. Then always think, "What's next? How can I make this happen?"

Oh Lissa, that would be amazing! I would love to see you over here. I am working on getting to California this year to see all my great friends so we'll keep in touch. Perhaps the Travel Hacking Cartel will help me achieve that at last! XXX

Hi Lissa,

thanks so much for promoting this. It's perfect timing for me as I have just been asked to be a regular contributor on an Irish radio program, speaking about travel. I am on for the first time on Thursday morning and then will be a weekly contributor on a new show starting in February. I am also starting my own travel writing gig and have been asked to be a blogger on Tripping.com as well. I love what Chris is doing and hope to get some action in Ireland and beyond for his work. It will be fun for me too. Hurray!
