Welcome back to the Become a Heartpreneur Series, where we’ve been talking about how to do well by doing good and connecting to your calling while still making the moolah. This next installation in the series is aimed specifically at those of you who have taken a leap of faith in order to fulfill your life’s destiny, only to find yourself stuck.
Are you a woman entrepreneur who risked everything to pursue your passion, only to find that things aren’t working out according to plan? Do you worry what everyone will think if you can’t make it after all that you’ve given up? Do you just know you’re here on earth to change the world, even though the stars don’t seem to be aligning right now?
Are you ready to finally get out of your own way so you can skyrocket to the stratosphere?
Oh yeah, baby. Trust me. I hear you.
I know how exciting it was when you took that leap of faith (or got pushed off the cliff) and decided to launch your own business. You trusted the process and had a gut feeling of rightness that built your confidence and led you to believe that the stars would all align. You invested your hard-earned money, spent a boatload of time working for free, and maybe even quit that stable soul-sucking job so you could really focus on doing what you love.
You felt called to do something that would change the world and leave your mark.
But now you feel confused and lost because things just aren’t happening the way you dreamed they would. The clients are trickling in, but nobody’s beating down your door. Your product isn’t flying off the shelves. You’re having trouble enrolling participants in your events. And your expenses are rising so much faster than your income that you feel like you’re drowning.
Your greatest fear is that you’ll have to abandon your big dream and go back to the hell you lived through before you started doing what you love.
The worst part is that you just don’t understand how this could happen. You listened to all the signs from the Universe, read The Secret, did your business homework, and focused on your manifestation exercises. You’ve heeded advice from others, clarified what you long to create, and worked your butt off to make your dream come true.
You can’t help comparing yourself to others who seem to get all the breaks. You start to doubt yourself. All that confidence you felt in the beginning is seeping out of your pores, and you’re left with this sinking feeling that you just don’t have what it takes to make it big. You wonder if you misinterpreted the signs that led you to take this leap. And you start to feel really, really alone.
Why has the Universe let you down when you’re only trying to help others and leave the world a better place than you found it?
If that sounds like you, I feel you, sister. Been there. Done that.
I seem to learn everything the hard way, but I’m passionate about helping others skip some of the painful lessons I’ve learned so they can leapfrog past many of the obstacles I faced when I wasn’t being mindful of what was getting in my way. My calling in this life is to encourage women to step into their power so they can own their feminine power, become Heartpreneurs, link arms together, collaborate, and change the world. In order to see my dreams come true, I need to help you bring your dreams to life, so together, we can make our mark.
I’ve been teaching what I’ve learned to my Pink Medicine Woman coaching clients, helping them get out of their own way so they can leap into their dreams. And I promise, it works!
But this process of coaching takes multiple one-on-one sessions and can get pricey for those who can’t afford regular coaching. While I adore working with people one-on-one, I’m so passionate about helping others navigate the process of getting out of their own way in order to make their entrepreneurial dreams come true that I decided to compile what I teach into a program that struggling Heartpreneurs, who may not be able to afford regular coaching, can implement at home at an affordable price.
That’s exactly why I created GET OUT OF YOUR OWN WAY: Free Yourself From Fear And Worry and Leap Into Your Dreams, my new eCourse, which is the culmination of everything I’ve learned over the past five years.
I’m so proud of what I’ve created, and I genuinely hope this will help you achieve your dreams.
If you’ve risked everything to launch your own business, but business is slow and you’re starting to doubt everything... Maybe you even left your stable job in order to follow your passion. But now you’re wondering if you’ve made a big mistake.
If you long to help empower others -- through your blog, your coaching, your speaking, and such, but you can’t just give away your gifts for free; you need people to start paying you what you’re worth, but you seem to have some block around it, then this program is for you.
If that’s how you feel, sister, let me give you a hug. (((((((YOU))))))))
Oh yeah. I can SO relate.
This GET OUT OF YOUR OWN WAY program boils down the essence of what I offer to my Pink Medicine Woman coaching clients into a 16 Step Get Out Of Your Own Way Program that is perfect for people who thought they already got out of their own way... but then find themselves in a big, scary mess. I created this program so that you can use it again and again and again. It’s like at least a dozen live coaching sessions, all rolled into one.
And I genuinely believe it will help you.
Here’s just a peek at some of what’s included in the course:
Please, let me help you so the world can experience your brilliance. Let me help you help yourself get out of your own way so you can get rid of those limiting beliefs and self-sabotaging behaviors that are keeping you from shining your light as brilliantly as I know you can.
I want to see your star rising, so the world can benefit from what you do and who you are.
Tell me how you feel. Do you get frustrated because you’ve risked everything and things just aren’t working out? Do you question The Universe and wonder why the stars aren’t aligning? Do you have any tips for those of us who have traipsed through the muck in the process of trying to make our dreams come true? Let us hear your gorgeous voice.
Committed to empowering Heartpreneurs everywhere,
Lissa

Marketing
By Corinne (not verified) on Friday, 04/08/2011 at 8:04 AMI appreciate your responses very much. It allows me to be specific in what I consider to be a better way of marketing. It seems obvious that what you are selling is valuable and that many would benefit from it - including me. Perhaps some of my frustration is just that - I really need to understand what's happening in my life right now but I can't even pay the rent right now, let alone buy the course.
I ran a website on Journalling for a few years. I also wrote and gave a lot of free content. Part of this was to be helpful BUT part of it was to give people a sense of who I was so that I could sell my workshops. It's all about marketing whether the product is a self-help thing or a bar of soap.
-----------------
I believe in being upfront and direct. Something like:
"I'm so excited to announce my brand new e-course to you all!!
Then write a bit about WHY you wrote the course.
Then write about WHO the course if for.
Then write a bit about what you can EXPECT from the course.
THEN wrap it all up with the name of the course and the dollar value/cost. Insert shopping cart here.
-------------
This is just my preferred way to address an audience. Not emotionally hooking them just to lead to disappointment and/or expectation of money for the 'answers'.
ANyways, I do appreciate you Lissa and all the work that you do. I appreciate the free content very much.
All the best.
My Take:
By Melanie Bates on Friday, 04/08/2011 at 7:37 AMI'm in a unique position here because I was, first and foremost, a community member of Owning Pink. Now I work here. But here's my take:
Maybe the real problem here lies in the fact that Lissa didn't start, right at the very beginning, charging for her content on Owning Pink. So she set up expectations for her readers (of which I am one) that she had more than one retirement fund to empty, more than one 401K to cash in, more than one house to sell, to fund this site. But she doesn't.
I don't know. I have my own issues with marketing, with "sales pitches," with charging people (no matter how valuable the product.) I realize that these issues tie in to my own issues of Self-Worth. And then I started working for Owning Pink and getting involved in marketing and reading the content from a business perspective and Lissa is right. Money = Exchange of Energy. In fact, Everything = Exchange of Energy.
It reminds me of many of my friendships where I give and give and give and never receive anything back. I've done this for years in my friendships and I always end up feeling empty and alone. I set up expectations that I will always be the one giving and never receiving, that I don't need anything.
But no more for me. This is unhealthy. I'm worth more, I deserve an equal exchange of energy in my friendships. You may be thinking "this girl has issues," and I do.
But, here's the thing, I don't think this situation of Lissa and Owning Pink (now including myself) trying to sell an amazing course that is helping people unlike anything I've ever seen, is any different than what I'm describing in my one-way-street friendships.
And it's SO more than okay if you're not interested in the eCourse, if you don't have a need for it, if you feel you can't afford it at this time. Perfectly 100% A-Okay. We're not forcing anyone to buy it. But we are indeed asking people to buy it because we know how monumental this content is. We've seen the results. We're over-the-moon excited about it. Shit... I'm reading it for content and edits, I'm double checking links, and it's changing my life and giving me a different perspective. That is worth something, no doubt.
And from the bottom of my heart as a member of the Owning Pink community (and not a staff member of Owning Pink) I still wholeheartedly believe that our community here on Owning Pink has an obligation, yes, that's right, an obligation, to support Lissa and the amazing things that she's doing, just as she's supported us over the past years as she's emptied out her heart, soul, and all of her personal financial resources.
Supporting, and energy exchange, doesn't have to be just buying, it can just be 100% support of her selling an eCourse that's changing lives. It can be as simple as giving her high-fives for that and thanking her for all she's given for free. It can be as simple as "this eCourse isn't for me but I'm so happy that you're putting it out into the world for others. How can I help you, as you've helped me."

I'm sorry you feel that way Corinne
By Lissa Rankin on Friday, 04/08/2011 at 7:24 AMWe've tried REALLY hard to be authentic in our marketing, so if you think we haven't been- please- tell us what you've done that works! We've hired an awesome marketing consultant- and it's been a learning process for us all. But we're learning as we go, breaking rules, navigating our own hearts, and still trying to sell a product.
So please- teach us! We're genuinely listening...
Much love

Lissa et al
By Corinne (not verified) on Friday, 04/08/2011 at 7:17 AMHi. Thank you for your comments and explanations. Just to clarify, I do NOT in any way think you shouldn't charge for an e-course. I have done plenty of my own online workshops in the past.
I think the thing that upset me the most was HOW the marketing was done. I think it really leads the reader on and then truly lets you down. Why wouldn't you put right up front that there's a new e-course and then say what it's about?? This is far more 'honest' in my opinion.
And this whole thing about being worth the money. I am worth it regardless of money. IF I had the money I might consider this e-course. I think it would be great. BUT I do not. This has nothing to do with my sense of worth.
Thanks for giving me the opportuntity to be honest and open here.
Thank you Maya!
By Lissa Rankin on Friday, 04/08/2011 at 7:02 AMI so appreciate the validation. And I can't wait to meet you one day too!

Your Wonderful Work
By Maya Hanley (not verified) on Friday, 04/08/2011 at 1:28 AMDear Lissa and Lauren,
over the last two years, I have been following the fortunes of Owning Pink, getting involved here and there when I can and hoping that soon I can actually come to the Bay Area and meet you all at last. You have been a huge source of support and inspiration for me during this time, which was, incidentally, one of the worst periods of my life. Lissa, your honesty and openness helped me at my darkest moments when I felt like everything was hopeless because you were forging ahead despite your fears and setbacks. Just knowing that you were doing that and sharing it will all of us helped me to keep going when I thought I couldn't anymore.
The e-course, from my perspective, is the obvious next step in your journey of helping and supporting people to have a better life. It took me a while to save up the money (started my own business and am almost a living description of your intro!) but, as soon as I had it, I knew it was the right next step for me and that is really because of the last 2 years of amazing inspiration that you and your marvelous team have spread around the globe.
I will sing it from the rooftops.
A huge surge of love coming your way from Ireland :) Maya
Dearest Lauren

Just sayin'....

Oh dear ones --
By Lauren Nagel on Thursday, 04/07/2011 at 8:20 PMCorinne and Anonymous and anyone else feeling duped - I must first say, THANK YOU. Because you are my worst fear. And you are coming true. And I'm thus able to face you!
You have no idea how many conversations go on here in the halls of Owning Pink about how to market what we all do. It actually makes me physically squirm - I just HATE this stuff. I just want to provide great content and edit fabulous writers and hope that we're maybe changing one life out there... My worst fear is anyone feeling disappointed and tricked and duped by our trying to sustain this free service. That we're "selling out." And I thank you because you're giving me the opportunity to face that fear and say:
We're sorry. We try so hard, we care so much. Like Lissa said, the e-course is the very first product we're offering through the site, and it was created to relay such an important message that she normally packs into numerous coaching sessions.
I'm sorry that this particular newsletter email and post left you feeling disappointed. Like Lissa, I will ask you to release us from judgment for trying to sustain this site. Our intentions are pure, I promise you.
If you're looking for more, please check out Lissa's entire blog archive here (http://www.owningpink.com/blogs/lissa-rankin) - with 42 web pages of free guidance and insights, as well as our Owning Success archive (http://www.owningpink.com/blogs/categories/owning-success) with 15 pages of free content from Lissa and our blogger roster.
I hope some of these resources feel helpful! They were all created with love, as was the post above. If you have suggestions on what we can do to make things feel less disappointing, leave them here. As you can see, one of the things we value on this site is dialogue and I am proud to be a part of an organization that really, truly, listens to and fosters community.
Thank you again for allowing me to face this fear, and for witnessing our intentions.
With great love,
Lauren (Editor-In-Pink)
I do genuinely care
By Lissa Rankin on Thursday, 04/07/2011 at 6:44 PMMichelle, bless you, my love for your sweet words. And Maya, I'm so glad you'll get to experience the e-course! Make sure you join our private forum so you can share your experience as you go (contact Melanie to get deets if you haven't gotten them already!)
To those of you who feel disappointed, I'm so sorry you feel this way. I genuinely wrote this because I created this e-course because i DO know how you feel and the e-course is full of stuff that will truly help you. But if it's not for you, no worries. I'm sorry if you feel bamboozled in any way.
And as Michelle said, I give my heart away every day at Owning Pink. This e-course is the first attempt we've made to give something truly valuable to our community in exchange for money to help us keep this ministry of service alive. If you feel called to support this ministry, AWESOME! Buy the e-course and help us pay our staff. If not, bless you- and keep enjoying everything we offer for free. But please- don't judge us for trying to turn this into a business. If we don't, we will have to stop making all this free content available and we will all suffer. So please, give us your blessing, and recognize that what we offer is great content, given with an open heart, in good conscious, in the best way we know as we learn along the way...
With great abiding love
Lissa
Lest I point out that Lissa
By Michelle Medina (not verified) on Thursday, 04/07/2011 at 4:47 PMLest I point out that Lissa gave us her story, and she also gave up everything and HAD, up until this point, already been giving everything away for free??? That means something in a world where most people are concerned with a bottom line and start doing business right away without even testing out their market, or even caring about their market, which is worse.
I live off of SSI *I'm visually impaired and likewise, some businesses aren't willing to risk their bottom line or accomodate a VI person*, but I found the money to pay for a coaching session because Lissa is worth it, and more importantly as she said herself, she wanted me to make the decision that I was worth it.
Thank you for everything you do Lissa!!!!!
I agree with Corrine
By Anonymous (not verified) on Thursday, 04/07/2011 at 4:13 PMI agree with you Corrine. I've been getting the weekly emails, and mostly enjoy them and feel inspired. But following the link to this was a let down... I was looking for a deeper level of inspiration, and the sales pitch threw me and disappointed.
So disappointed
By Corinne (not verified) on Thursday, 04/07/2011 at 3:49 PMI suspect my opinion is going to differ from other's.
I was reading your email, thinking that the Universe had sent me something really valuable. I have left that job and I am falling flat with my business and I do think it's all been a big mistake. I read with great interest and enthusiasm.
Then it linked me to here. And I read more enticing words. I thought maybe I would gain an insight today. However, it was all a sales pitch. No insights, helpful ideas or inspiration. Sales.
I get that everyone has to earn a living but does it always have to come with a price tag?
I'm so disappointed.

Hurray - I Signed Up
By Maya Hanley (not verified) on Thursday, 04/07/2011 at 2:53 PMI am thrilled that I finally signed up for your course. I have downloaded all the documents and, this weekend, they're coming out and I'm getting started. I can't wait. Very excited.....
Still seeking out the money
By Michelle Medina (not verified) on Thursday, 04/07/2011 at 5:34 AMStill seeking out the money for this one!!! Hopefully in May!!! I know it's worth it and more importantly, I'm worth it!
