Own Pink With Elderly Parents

Owning Pink elderly parents

"Hey, Dad!"

My father looks at me with empty eyes, and then says, "Hey, eh Sylvia." He remembers my name now, but at the rate his Alzheimers is progressing, I bet it won't take long before the disease takes that away too.

He doesn't notice anymore how that effects my mom, but it does. She just does her job in taking care of him, but it takes out it's toll on her. I am happy that she finally sees what it does to her, and that she has reached out to ask for help in caring for him.

All this has made me wonder: how can you be your authentic self as you see your parents deteriorate? How do you keep your light shining bright despite your sadness?

Turn On Your EXPERT Mode!

expertise

The other day I was playing the number game Sudoku on my iPhone. It was a hard game to play, harder than usual. Then, as I was entering the last numbers to finish the game, I saw I had made a mistake. Instead of turning on my usual Hard mode, I had chosen the Expert mode -- the hardest level of the game.

This game -- and "mistake" --- taught me something valuable. How often do we sell ourselves short, and think we can do less than we truly can? In my example it is just about a game, but it serves well as an example of how often we misjudge and underestimate our abilities.

Reinvigorate Your Creativity

I know I'm in a community of creative souls here at Owning Pink (just look at the awesome posts in the Owning Pink forum!), and yet creativity can grow stale; we can feel spirit ebbing away as we create our work. This may be a sign that we need to turn onto new paths in our creative expression, let fear get out of the way and let our souls shine through once more.

Say Farewell To Fear

This morning I sat thinking that I forgotten something. Then suddenly I paled and realized that I forgot to post one of my articles here for Owning Pink, still brooding on the other! I immediately got taken over by all sorts of fears with my inner critic running rampant -- telling me how worthless I was for forgetting, and how I should be ashamed, and how I'm not really a writer. I just sat there and listened to that voice, just listening, not feeling. Then I smiled.

Start Living A Magical Life

We were born for lives filled with wonder and excitement, lives filled with mojo, lives where we constantly live in league with the unexpected. But then why do our lives start feel so stale? What can we change now ? What can we change simply in order to live with magical eyes (just like all of the amazing Pinkies are already doing)?

Create A Routine For A Mojo-Filled Day

Do you recognize this? You get up in the morning and you feel sluggish already. You hate the thought of the day ahead of you and at night you go to bed feeling dissatisfied.

You can change this, instantly, by creating a morning routine. Set your alarm a little earlier (I know, ugh, but trust me -- it's worth it!) so that you have some time just for you, and do something that energizes you and makes you happy.

A Spirit-Refreshing Ritual

Each of us has our own spiritual path and our own unique and individual way to connect with the Divine. Living and breathing your spiritual beliefs is a wonderful way to Own Pink, and to get your mojo flowing. But sometimes spirituality can feel stale, like maybe you are not getting the satisfaction from it that you once did. I invite you to see these times as invitations to examine your beliefs, to adjust, and to delve into what you are seeking within yourself that your spiritual beliefs do not clearly answer.

One way you can address this staleness is by creating a ritual for yourself.

Beat Procrastination With Passion

Every single person needs to have procrastinating time. Time where you just idle by and let life be life. To just not do anything and state that proudly when someone asks: "Whatcher doin?" Nothing is wrong with that. It's just the way for the body and mind to reset themselves, to get you back into a state of mind your work or your family requires.

Mojo Monday: Yule Blessing Ritual To Help You Manifest Your Dreams

white-candle
The 21st of December is the day of Yule. The longest night. It is the celebration of the return of the light, and a first shimmering hope that spring will come to the land with the increase of daylight in the months to come.
