Owning Commerce: Let’s Change the World, Shall We?

Saturday, March 13th, 2010

Hi, Pinkies! Dana here. Owning Pink has become a force in the world. Can you feel it? Not only can we feel it, we can measure it and we’ve been growing at over 400% a quarter since Lissa started her blog almost a year ago.

As Lissa has intimated, the Owning Pink site is going to change in the next month or so. Pretty soon we’re going to have more blog posts, more opporutnity for everyone to participate and more opportunities for Pinkies to share their stories of wellness, self-discovery and getting their Mojo back. No matter what your path, you’ll have a home here at Owning Pink.

Garnering Support
To grow and continue to provide this safe space for everyone, we need to reach out to get some sponsors for the site. But in true Owning PInk fashion, we don’t want to just bombard ourselves with ads and logos, we want to do things differently. I mean, we’re being authentic here.  Why accept sponsors who don’t make the same commitment?

We’re going to reach out to some of our favorite “pink” companies and invite them to hep us change the world- to join us authentically, contribute to our knowledge, share their causes with us, and shine a light on the good work they’re doing in the world. And if their products and services are good, we’re going to recommend them to each other (and if they’re not, we’re going to tell each other that too!).

Whom to approach?
So here’s where we need your help. Tell us which companies you think are Pink! Which ones have great products that contribute to your health and wellness? Which ones are good corporate citizens of the world? Which ones treat you like a human being instead of a statistic? These are the companies we want to invite to help us Own Pink as we grow. Let us know which of these companies already recognized for corporate citizenship you would like to see here. Also, you can leave your suggestions in the comments below and if you know anyone at the company we can call, email me at dana [at] owningpink.com.

Woman are the greatest economic force in the world. Let’s own the power of our wallets and reward the companies we like doing business with and ask them to support us.

Love, light, and growing growing growing,

Dana

Mojo Monday: Release Old Thoughts About Money & Make Way For Abundance

Sri Lakshmi, Hindu Goddess of Abundance

Sri Lakshmi, Hindu Goddess of Abundance

Dearest Pinkies, please welcome back Tamlyn Leigh, author of the blog Simply Blissful and wise goddess of the Posse blog, here with another brilliant ritual. This time, Tamlyn is helping us Own Abundance (are you sensing a theme emerging here, Pinkies?). Enjoy, go forth, and attract! Big love and thanks to you, Tamlyn.
****

This ritual has been a long time coming. It brewed in the back of my mind ever since I had two Pink coincidences. One was talking to the lovely and utterly wonderful Megan about abundance, the second was me promising to write a ritual on money and then realizing what I promised.

My story about money

For some reason money and I don’t speak very well together. It is because I still have a hard time realizing it is energy. Having been so low on energy for such a long time it is no wonder that I have such a strenuous relationship with money.

Also a fun fact: I had a period in my life where I bought literally anything that caught my fancy. Not very expensive stuff, just getting a new hobby and then buying ten new things for it instead of 100. It was my way to bury the pain and sadness, but the moment the newness wore off, I was right where I started out in the first place.

So there is a lot of shame attached to money.

And anger. As a child I used to be the one with money- I saved very well. In the end a lot of people came to borrow money from me, and I ended up losing a lot of it. So I learned to spend it all.

This is only the money/energy aspect of abundance I have problems accepting.

To really renew my relationship with abundance in every aspect, I need to shed all these built up notions on what abundance really is, and shape a gorgeous new place in my life. And yes, I know abundance isn’t about money, it’s just an aspect of it in this physical world we live in. I see now it is all a part of the energy flow that keeps our beautiful planet in tact.

And now, the ritual

What you need:

  • a white candle
  • a piece of paper
  • a pen
  • a tool to use to scratch in the candle
  • a fire-resistant bowl or container, or a beautiful potted plant

What to do:

  1. Put the candle and the paper in front of you, and write down what you want to let go of in regards to abundance. What aspects do you need to redefine? Think of abundance in energy, abundance in joy, abundance in love, abundance in friendships. What do you need to let go of to lead a life of utter abundance and bliss?
  2. Get the candle, and scratch in words that define abundance for you. What you would love to gain?
  3. Set the candle in a safe spot and then keep your piece of paper ready to burn. Or, re-pot the plant with your torn up sheet in the bottom, ready to be re-absorbed in by the earth’s energy
  4. Light the candle and then burn the paper, leave the candle burning, all the while keeping the words you have carved in your mind’s eye.

Please share how your ritual went!

What is your relationship to money? Do you have limiting beliefs about abundance that keep you stuck? Are the channels free for abundance energy to flow? Share your experiences, Pinkies- and let’s make way for good things to come our way!

Blessings,

Tamlyn

Miracles Abound- A Reminder To Ask the Universe For What You Need

Wednesday, February 10th, 2010

Really. Just ask. Ask for what you need. You’ll never believe this … or maybe you will. Yesterday, I was inspired to post about money because, frankly, we need it right now. After taking a leap of faith and quitting my fancy six-figure doctor job salary three years ago, we’ve been putting sweat equity into our lives- lots of sweat, little short term return (with big long term dreams). But right now, we need to pay the rent. So Pink editor-in-chief Joy and I were doing what we do often- pondering what we need and practicing saying it out loud, witnessed by each other and the Universe.

Ask For What You Need- Say It Out Loud to Someone You Trust

I said, “I need help paying the bills so I can allow Owning Pink to grow.” Then I wrote a post about Owning Abundance, releasing our financial fears, and trusting in the Universe. Joy edited the post, drafted it on the site, and I went in- with a smidgen of hesitation at putting it all out there so openly- and clicked “Publish post.”

Signs From the Universe

Two minutes later, I went on Twitter to tweet the link. And I found a barrage of tweets saying “Check this out @lissarankin! Forbes listed you on the 20 Inspiring Women to Follow on Twitter!” Uh…gulp. I mean, seriously. I had just published my first ever Owning Pink post about money and uh….Forbes? Seriously? I tiptoed around the house looking for lightning rods, Red Seas, and burning bushes.

Ten minutes later, I walked outside and discovered a ginormous rainbow, cascading from one West Marin mountainside to another. A brilliant, sparkly, vibrant bright red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple rainbow. And what lies at the end of a rainbow? You guessed it…the pot of gold. Okay, God. Deep bow. I’m listening.

The Purple Kangaroo

A few months back, Joy and I were talking about this very thing, when Joy piped up, “Damn, girl. You’re this close to just being able to ask for what you need and have it appear right in front of you. Just do it. Say ‘Purple Kangaroo.’” I

I giggled, and said, “Purple kangaroo.” And then a deer appeared right at my window, staring in at me with big doe eyes.

Joy said, “But it’s wearing a purple hat, right? Eating purple flowers?”

Okay, so the purple kangaroo didn’t show up right away. But for Christmas, Joy gave me- you guessed it- a plush purple kangaroo. So I told Dana the story, and last month, Dana was meditating and frustrated, so her guides took her to a magic place and told her to ask for anything. She came up with the purple kangaroo (to her surprise). She set an intention to draw to her the purple kangaroo. A week later, in a business meeting having nothing to do with Owning Pink, a friend gave her a toilet calendar and in it was a purple kangaroo on the month of September.

Sebastian Murphy, the Owning Pink mascot

Sebastian Murphy, the Owning Pink mascot

This little purple kangaroo we’ve now named Sebastian Murphy is a sign and a symbol that we can achieve ANYTHING with Owning Pink. Anything we can imagine we can bring into being on this earth. Our magical eyes, our belief that the angels are here to help us achieve our highest good and the highest good for the whole planet through Owning Pink is absolutely one hundred percent TRUE. It’s already here, living in everyone’s heart on the earth. We just have to BE the beings to SEE it and to help others SEE it so they can FEEL it so they will BELIEVE it. And once they believe it, they will BE it, too.  Our purple kangaroo is tangible proof that WE can bring this reality to the earth plane and plant a little pink spark in everyone we SEE.

We Don’t Need to be Superheroes

Don’t you get it, Pinkies? We don’t need to carry the burden of our lives.  We don’t need to plan and scheme and plod through life, carrying the weight of the world on our shoulders. We need not worry, feel anxious, fret, or otherwise stress out about the challenges in our lives. We don’t need to save the world- or even ourselves. We can take off our red capes and spandex jumpsuits. We don’t have to be superheroes. We can just be ourselves and surrender everything to a greater Superpower. The magic ticket to peace? Letting it all go. Saying it out loud. Turning it over to the Universe. And then trusting the flow of whatever happens next.

It’s Not Just Me

I can hear you Pinkies grumbling. It’s just you, Lissa. I ask for what I need and I never get Signs. I surrender to the Universe but the Universe doesn’t listen. I take Pleaps (Pink leaps of faith) but I fall flat on my face. You’re special, Lissa. You’ve been chosen. These things don’t happen to regular folks.

I hear you. I SEE you. I understand. And, with all due respect, I lovingly say, “Bullshit!” Trust me, Pinkies. It’s not just me. YOU are special. It DOES happen every day. You DO get Signs. Miracles happen when you see the world with Magical Eyes. It’s so much easier than you think. It’s not something you do. It’s something you UNdo.  It’s something you BE. And it’s available to every single one of you.

Trusting the Universe

I promise I won’t get all fundy on you here, Pinkies. I’m not going to jump on my podium, start singing Hail Marys, or threaten the end of days.  But I’m not shy about saying that I believe a Higher Power is at work in my life- and in yours. Wherever you’re at on your spiritual journey, I honor you and I respect your beliefs. But I can’t just sit back and act like these things are coincidences. When you see miracles happen, you just can’t help it. You want to shout it from the rooftops and make sure everyone knows WE ARE NOT ALONE. There is purpose in the Universe.  It is yours for the owning. And all you need to do is surrender to it.

What’s your purpose, Pinkies? Do you see the signs? Have you had magical experiences with the Universe? Tell us your miracles….

Seeing purple kangaroos everywhere,

Lissa

Owning Your Dreams: Thoughts On Believing In Yourself From Tama Kieves

11259-Pink-Pig-Flying

Hello Pinkies,
We are thrilled and honored to welcome Tama J. Kieves, who is an honors graduate of Harvard Law School who left her practice with a large corporate law firm to write and to embolden others to live their most fulfilling lives. She is the bestselling author of THIS TIME I DANCE! Creating the Work You Love and is a sought-after speaker and career coach who has helped thousands world-wide to discover and live their creative dreams. Wohoo, yes please. Big love and thanks to Tama. Enjoy, Pinkies!

I am committed to allowing myself to receive more freaking goodness than I can imagine. To start with, I am going to know that, independent of anyone else’s predictions or convictions, my life can be fantastic. I am going to stop calling negativity and limitation “realism.” I’m going to just start calling them negativity and limitation.

We have all bought into the superstition that goodness is a soap bubble about to burst. But I challenge you to think of sadness and strain as a bubble, too, a bubble that can burst as easily. It all depends on where you put your focus, what you call real, which altar you light your candles on.

Let me tell you a personal story. Years ago, to support the release of my first book This Time I Dance! Creating the Work you Love, I put myself on the road.  It was a brave move, investing money in myself, and speaking to practically any group that had cheese and crackers.  At the first event of my “tour,” I spoke to a high-powered women’s business group. They loved me and I did cartwheels inside.

That afternoon, still cartwheeling, I walked into a Cost Plus World Market, one of those stores that sell ethnic home accessories, fun art, and  things you really don’t need, but suddenly have to have.  I sashayed down the aisles, boogie author, she who had just nailed her first real talk on this adventure. I picked up a piggy bank, a leather olive green pig with red and purple wings. “When pigs fly,” I think to myself and grin. My journey of writing and launching the book has seemed like realizing the impossible. I hold the little crafted object. I should get this, I think, to symbolize shattering the customary, rising above the gravitational pull of doubt and fear.

“Yeah, but you know how things go,” another inner voice pipes up. It’s just the beginning of your trip. You don’t know how the rest of the events will turn out. You could be disappointed and then you’ll feel silly with your triumphant, hopeful totem here.” The voice throws me a bone.  “Let’s wait and see how things turn out,” it says. It’s my rational voice, the one that controls the checkbook, buys the sale flowers at the florist, and never orders a brownie with her tea. I put the pig back down.

That night I did a book signing that broke my heart. So few people came.  Then a man with long stringy gray hair interrupted my reading with wandering political rampages and very private jokes, every author’s nightmare rite of passage. The crowd, or more accurately, the handful, stared at me helplessly. I looked at the empty chairs, and thought about how much plane fare, hotel, and other “manifestations of faith,” this trip would cost me. I felt like a piñata, clubbed until the sweetness fell out of me.  “Good thing you didn’t get that silly triumphant pig,” said the voice inside. Now I felt ashamed. I cringed at the thought of having believed in myself, believing everything would turn out just right, believing I was now finally on that roll I’d always dreamed about.

Today, years later, I think I should have bought the pig. I should have bought my celebration totem, because in that moment I felt alive and I believed–I knew something true deep in my bones. The following disappointment didn’t change the truth of the original dazzling moment, until I let it. When I said, let’s wait and see, I turned my power over to outside circumstances. That “wait and see” was an admission that I could change my mind about myself, about what had already transpired inside me, about my ultimate path and the navigational skills of my Infinitely Loving God. That “wait and see” was a nod to the bitter pills, darkness and difficulties I had trained myself to expect. But more than that, it was also a vote to make moments of pain carry more weight than moments of joy and realization.

“I’m having more fun than I’ve ever had in my life,” a client said to me recently, giddiness in her voice. Her business is beginning to take off and she feels she is starring in a new movie, one in which she’s the lucky, leading lady. “I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop,” she says. And I’m struck by how we do this to ourselves. We tell ourselves that life can’t be that good. It has to stop. It has to end. What goes up, must come down. “We are meant to grow and expand,” I tell her. It is our evolutionary instinct to strengthen, blossom, and develop heightened capacities. I share a quote with her from Esther and Jerry Hicks: “The better it gets, the better it gets.” She agrees to practice opening to her full expression, startlingly fabulous though it may be.

It’s considered prudence to prepare for rainy days and challenges. But we don’t do much to prepare for joy. Instead when love or abundance comes to our house, we think it’s a fleeting visitor, a lost butterfly, a hoax, or at best, a reprieve from the gray bulldozer of reality. But I invite you to consider that when you’re in your joy, you’re in your sane mind, your big mind, the part of you that is connected to a wholly alive stream. Everything else is the miscalculation. Just because negativity is familiar, doesn’t mean it’s significant. When you’re in your joy, you are more intelligent, resourceful, and present to possibilities.  It’s who you really are. Circumstances that follow may tempt you to forget your passion and your knowing. But it’s the disillusionment—that’s really the illusion.

For me, the path of being self-employed, having a dream and moving it into the world in a big way, has been one of constantly remembering a sweeter reality, no matter what conditions look like. The circumstances fluctuate, but my good does not.  I’m always on the road to even more grace. There are so many fantastic opportunities that are waiting to come into my life right now the moment I allow myself to fully accept my value and welcome them.  I’m not denying reality. I’m claiming it.

Yes, it’s easier to assume doom. We fit in. We’d probably even be seen as thoughtful, prophetic, and on the money. But fitting in is the booby prize. It’s not the point of this life. We’re here to claim our divine potential, raise the bar, break through old beliefs and prejudices, and allow the Creative Force of Love and Intelligence to have its reckless, abundant, glorious way with us. Our happiness can save the planet. Our laughter can coax the trees to grow, the rains to fall, and the stars to shine. We can do more good with joy than we could ever do with pain.  We are here to tap our own magnificent innate powers, shine, boogie, rock on and show each other what’s possible in this lifetime.

Of course there is suffering and pain in the world. But these are the places where we, the members of humanity, haven’t gotten it right yet. Why would we make these the standard of reality, if it’s not a reality we wish to create? By the way, I am not saying it’s wrong to feel pain. It’s a place we all explore, on our way to healing and joy.

Good things are knocking at your door right now. Open the door.  Allow yourself to believe that you can have the dream you desire. Take in the abundance wherever you are and allow more to shower upon you, with your arms wide open for as long as you can. It’s never too much for you to handle. You were designed to blossom.  Practice allowing yourself to be loved just as the Sufi poet Hafiz describes: “And the sun and the moon sometimes argue over who gets to tuck me in at night. If you think I’m having more fun than anyone else on the planet, you are absolutely correct.”

I urge you to try on a new sense of realism. When good things happen to you, don’t wait for the other shoe to drop. Expect something even better now.  You’re  just revving up. Remember, you’re in your power when you’re in your joy. I’d say the shoe on the ground—is about to fly.

With my love and blessings,

Tama J. Kieves
