As I finish up my next book Mind Over Medicine: Scientific Proof You Can Heal Yourself, I've been asking all my bestselling authors to share their secrets to how their books got on the New York Times bestseller list. They all told me the same thing.
"I just let God write it."
As it turns out, God has more ins with the people at the New York Times than Oprah.

As I wrote about here, I believe medicine is a spiritual practice because practicing medicine is all about being vessels for Divine love, so we can facilitate the process of self-healing for our patients.
But nobody ever taught me this in medical school. I learned it by merely being human.
Because of my ability to be both human and a doctor, I have always practiced love, with a little medicine on the side.

Growing up, I was forced to go to a church I never liked. The scripture felt foreign. The people didn’t speak my language. The grape juice at communion tasted off. I didn’t feel God in me. The sermons caused me to tune out. I got bored. I wrote stories on the backs of offering envelopes. And as soon as I went to college and had a say over what happened on Sundays, I stopped going to church.

I just took a women’s workshop with the fabulous Dr. Deb Kern called Sacred Sexuality: Experiencing and Harnessing Your True Feminine Power, which married the principles she learned from the Divine Feminine/ Awakened Masculine Institute with her own unique philosophy and talents.. But before I go any further, I’m going to disappoint anybody who landed on this post while Google-searching porn. Nobody got naked. There was no girl-on-girl action (at least not the kind you’re thinking of). And nobody had an orgasm -- at least not the kind of brief, spasmodic clit sneeze most of us think of when we hear the word.
But something bigger happened. Something much bigger, sexier, and more powerful.

But sometimes spirituality can feel stale, like maybe you are not getting the satisfaction from it that you once did. I invite you to see these times as invitations to examine your beliefs, to adjust, and to delve into what you are seeking within yourself that your spiritual beliefs do not clearly answer.
One way you can address this staleness is by creating a ritual for yourself.

Relationships are a fascinating and massively influential part of most people’s lives. We seem to have an innate need to relate to one another and to experience depth and love with each other - or our lives will feel dry and stale.
Unfortunately, it seems that a large percentage of relationships are NOT bringing satisfaction and joy. In fact, a lot of the time relationships are a source of irritation, frustration, loneliness, boredom, lack of harmony, instead of being joyful and nourishing. It inspires a craving for something else, something deeper. Is it at all surprising that there are so many divorces and affairs happening right now? We need this depth so much that even some of the most honest and integritous people will find themselves looking elsewhere if these deep needs are not met.

Owning Your Intuition: You DO Receive Guidance

At the end of one of my two-part workshops on developing intuition, I was speaking with a participant who had shown to be very in touch with her intuition from the first day of class. On the last evening, she informed me that on that very night, during one of the group exercises, she had actually “seen” the office space of her group partner and described it in detail. This person shared that this had “never happened before” and seemed pleased. Her partner confirmed the accuracy.

This song from Regina Spektor's 2009 album Far inspired me to post it here. I just heard it for the first time recently, and it's still swirling around my head. I downloaded it to my Pink Playlist on my Ipod and was wandering amongst the redwoods in Muir Woods when I heard it. I wound up in tears.
