Speak Your Truth: I Am Woman, Hear Me Roar

speak your truth

Last night, I heard the news that Osama bin Laden had been assassinated. The very first thought that popped into my mind was, “Ding dong the witch is dead. Rejoice, munchkins!" Then a brief 10 seconds later, it was followed by a heaviness in my heart. Everyone all over the US was celebrating. Twitter was all atwitter with gleeful cheering. Facebook was one big PAR-TEE. There were parties in the streets.

And yet, I found myself crying, not because the world isn’t better off without bin Laden in it, but because our reaction as a society breaks my heart.

Speaking my truth

So I wrote this post. And I tweeted it on Twitter. And I posted it on a Facebook. And I quoted Gandhi saying, “An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind.”

And then people started un-liking me on Facebook. And un-following me on Twitter. And I started getting hate mail. And that just made me cry more.

Embracing My Fragmented Life

It is my pleasure to announce on this glorious Saturday Posse Party, a dear friend of mine, Caren Schmidt. One of the many pleasures of being part of the Pink Community is that we are able to not only support each other through our spiritual evolutions, but we are also able to be present in the moments of expansion. It is my honor to share with you one of the moments of Caren's personal growth.

Turning Online Friends into Real Life BFFs

The Bloggess Jenny Lawson, Owning PInk's Lissa Rankin, and BlogHer Co-Founder Jory Des Jardins

When I attended the BlogHer 2010 conference last weekend, I was struck by the power of what happens when you gather women (and few token men) together with the intention of supporting each other. My friend Jory Des Jardins is one of the founders of BlogHer.com, and I was SO proud to see her there, gloriously pregnant and radiant with her passion for the yearly estrogen fest of their annual conference. When we first met and she was describing to me what inspired she and her co-founders Lisa Stone and Elisa Camahort Page to launch BlogHer, I didn’t quite get it. Now, after attending the conference, I do. It’s all about building community, empowering women to stand behind and uplift each other, raising the decibels of our voices, and linking arm and arm as we beeline towards our dreams.

How to Play a Bigger Game (A Pink Report from BlogHer ’10)

Last week I attended the BlogHer ’10 Conference in NYC. One of the reasons I was there was to represent “Team Owning Pink.” (That’s a pic of us after Lissa’s “What? You Can’t Say Vagina?” keynote speech!) Another reason I went was because I wanted to challenge myself to play a bigger game - which required that I extend myself way outside of my comfort zone.

Tweeting To Transformation

I am humbled to introduce Syda Renai. ::Insert Saturday Posse Party music here::  Syda and I met on Twitter through a mutual friend, Carla. I first got to know Syda in the Journaling Lounge. Our relationship quickly carried over to Owning Pink and finally, the Pink Posse. There I have watched Syda grow from being a rather reserved person, to taking her life by the (pardon my language,) balls and going for what she really wants. One of my favorite things about Owning Pink is the large range of diversity that occurs within our walls. Syda is a strong example that no matter how you have lived in the past, all that matters is the moment and what you do with it now. It is my pleasure to introduce a small piece of her journey to us, enjoy! -- Megan Monique

High Tech Low Connection

Do cell phones, texts, emails and socials in fact facilitate communications, or are they the ruination of real relationships?

From even the analog Halcyon Days on, I was known as Gadget Girl to my friends. But as much as I adore my gadgets and technology, does constant tech babbling make us more or actually less connected to each other?

How Social Media Can Help You Get Your Mojo Back

One year ago, I had no clue how to use social media. Sure, I had 100 friends on Facebook and had vaguely heard of Twitter, but it all sounded like a total time sink.  Boy, was I wrong.

What I didn't know then was that social media would not only help me get my mojo back, it would land me a publishing deal that found four houses fighting over my book, in addition to introducing me to my tribe, the people who get me and are committed to helping me achieve my dreams.

Owning Your Inner Nerd

My daughter came home from school last week, sobbing, because one of the kids in her preschool called her a nerd. While I stroked her hair and wiped her tears, I flashed back 25 years to when I was fifteen. The head cheerleader, who was my secret friend, turned away from me at the lunch table. Standing there, holding my green plastic tray with my soggy hamburger, limp fries, and orange juice, I saw the apology in her cheerleader eyes when she said, “This is not the nerd table.”
