I have a friend who can't understand why I've never had a pedicure or manicure. She loves going with her girlfriends to sit and be pampered. I take her to a bookstore instead (which she also loves) and we get coffee and compare teenage son stories. But sometimes I do wonder why I don't want to go with her to the salon. I mean generally, I would rather look pretty than not, so how come in 48 years I've never made one attempt to sit in a chair and have my toes painted? I've come up with lots of reasons, including the fact that my hobbit feet wouldn't look very good with pink dots, but today I got to the bottom of the real reason.
