What Are You Taking For Granted?

My mother used to say, “You can’t be unhappy and grateful at the same time.” Over the years, I have found how right she was, in matters of the heart.

Often, we think of love as a big emotional experience and we put conditions on it. We think, if X, Y, and Z happens, I can experience love. We think of it as something outside ourselves that we suddenly arrive at one day. But actually that is not so.

How To Be Thankful

how to be thankful

Thanksgiving can be a tough time for people. I lost my father almost six years ago, and his birthday often falls on Thanksgiving (this year it’s the day before), so I always miss the way he’d finagle my leftover turkey sandwich out of my hot, little hands and into his. Many of you miss loved ones on Thanksgiving - or the holiday reminds you of the person who abandoned you - or the husband that betrayed you - or the perfect mother you never had. It’s easy to let Thanksgiving devolve into a pityfest.

desire more

One of my Get Out Of Your Own Way students posted this in our private forum. With her permission, I wanted to share it because I think this is such a common way we prevent ourselves from dreaming big. In Part 1 of the Overcoming UnderDREAMing series, we tackled how to practice dreaming big so you exercise this skill like a muscle. In Part 2, we’ll address how to be grateful and still live the mojo-full life we all deserve.

3 Tips For Adding Acknowledgment To Your Life

After being part of the Owning Pink Team for over a year as the Community Manager and Communications Director, it occurred to me that what I really wanted was to be an Owning Pink Life Coach. So in July of 2010 I began a coaching certification program with Frame of Mind Coaching. I loved their program because they believe that journaling plays a HUGE role in personal transformation. Self development has always been a passion of mine and since Lissa informed me that becoming an Owning Pink life coach meant I had to be certified (because I am only 24), I jumped on board with the program.

A couple weeks ago I had my last and final call with my one on one coach, Adi, for this phase of my certification. One incredible thing I got out of this call was that I have a lot to acknowledge myself for -- something I more than often overlook.

Pink Thanksgiving: Make Gratitude A Daily Practice

gratitude daily practice

Today is Thanksgiving, and we’re supposed to feel grateful on this day, which always kind of bugs me. With 365 days in the year, why point out one day during which we’re supposed to give thanks?

Don’t get me wrong. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. Feasting, family, gratitude, pie crust with those cinnamon sprinkles? Bring it.  And sure, going around the Thanksgiving table to listen to everyone express out loud what they’re grateful for warms my heart.

But it doesn’t feel like enough.

Owning My Dreams: Living In The Now

My Dream Life

Three months ago, I decided my dream life would be to travel the United States, seeing new places, people, and things and taking in all the different lifestyles along the way. Seeing as how I work for Owning Pink (from my computer) and have relationships with men and women all over the country (or world, for that matter,) through the Online Pink Community, I had the resources and means to do just that. On February 16, 2010 I took off on The Magical Eyes Tour leaving Dallas, Texas and heading toward Northern California- mapping it out as I went; living my dream life.
