When I first thought about doing a green juice detox cleanse three years ago, my first thought was “No way in hell.” After all, I’m a total foodie, I like my wine, and giving up food flashed me back to a decade of deprivation during medical school and residency, when I was lucky to get one meal a day because I was too busy working my ass off to eat.

When I paid $19.95 to sign up for Match.com where I met my now-husband, I got a free subscription to People magazine. And although I canceled my Match.com subscription a month later, I’ve been renewing People for nine years now -- which is my guilty secret (okay, not so secret) vice.
I read my People magazine cover to cover, and then I read The Economist so I don’t feel like a total dimwit. I don’t have a television, so People is my lifeline to pop culture, and for the most part, it brings me great joy to know who Taylor Swift is writing about in her precious bubble gum pop (which I immediately download to my iPod, along with Miley Cyrus and the Glee soundtracks. Don’t laugh).
But every time I see a “Body After Baby” article showing off how some celebrity is prancing around in a bikini six weeks postpartum, I want to puke.

No! Not again! Stop the madness!
I live in Marin County, the land of the fit, thin, and affluent, so the ads for the recently revived but long ago unproven HCG diet abound. “LOSE 40 POUNDS AND YOUR BELLY FAT IN 6 WEEKS WITHOUT HUNGER, AND KEEP IT OFF!” As an MD who ran an integrative medicine center before switching to a coaching practice, I just have one thing to say. Bullshit.
Hear me out.

Hellloooo healthy warriors!
To fast or not to fast, that is the question! Why? What’s so dang scary about not eating a meal? We’re all so attached to food for so many different reasons that the idea of skipping solids brings waves of panic and visions of hospitalization. Here’s the deal. Don’t fast without nutrition. It’s that simple. Water, maple syrup, cayenne, vinegar–THAT AIN’T nutrition. Obviously, I’m referencing a few common plans rolled into one taco.

My new friend Michelle Currie of Meditative Arts just asked me to answer this question for her upcoming e-book: How do you stay refreshed during the day? What keeps you energized?
I thought it was such a great question, it deserved its own post.
People ask me all the time how I accomplish all that I do in life as a Pink Medicine Woman coach, author, workshop leader, doctor, artist, mother, and entrepreneur. And my standard answer is “ass in chair” -- as in, you gotta work your ass off. But this question got me thinking. What allows me to get my ass in that chair so that I can finish that book/complete that solo art show/write that e-course/book those clients? Well, I make efforts to stay refreshed and feel energized!

Let me start by saying that I was a skeptic. Green juice. Bleck! Cleansing? Yeah right, that’s too far out there for me.
But as is often the case, life has a way of laughing at us skeptics. You see, over the last month I have been joyfully helping Green Juice Goddess Tricia Barrett prepare an upcoming e-course and cleanse program for Owning Pink that will start this spring. But before I get into those details, let me tell you how I turned from skeptic to green juice, cleansing believer.

Adrenal fatigue? Say what? I hear you. It’s certainly nothing they ever taught me in medical school, and chances are that if you go to your doctor at Kaiser and ask to get tested for it, they’ll raise a white coat eyebrow at you.

Hiya Pinkies, April is National Stress Awareness Month. A few points from a 2004 American Psychological Association Survey tells us why this we need a whole month to remind us why we need to chill out:
In light of the current unemployment rates, mortgage foreclosures, bankruptcy filings, other financial uncertainties, and a lingering war, these percentages are likely much higher.
