Spiritual Athlete,

Yes, that’s what you are, a spiritual athlete. So why the heck would you bolt out of bed and start your day without a warm-up? “But, I’m busy, the world needs me, I have 57 kids and 2 needy husbands and a flock of dogs.” Yeah, yeah, join the club tootsie! When I start my day with caffeine, emails, news and stress, I can pretty much guarantee 24 hours in shitsville.

I Heart My Brain

Jill Bolte Taylor

For many reasons I am in love with my brain, your brain, the brain. Yet until recently, I’ve known next to nothing about the most phenomenal organ in my body. Thanks to Jill Bolte Taylor’s book, "My Stroke of Insight," I am on a new mission: Know thy brain. In doing so, I have a hunch that I will come to know myself at a deeper level. Have you read this book? If not, I highly recommend it. Your brain will thank you, just like mine did. Here’s a nutshell synopsis from Amazon:

Nine Bootylicious Workouts

Kris Carr

This year I turned 40. Yes, 40 and proud! And thanks to my Crazy Sexy Diet and lifestyle, I still fit into clothes from high school (however, I no longer wear neon and sport a perm – thank God). At the start of an important decade, I find myself reflecting on the notion of aging gracefully. The word graceful makes it seem easy. Like if I embrace linen, simple makeup and tie my hair neatly, elegance will be mine. Hmmm, not sure I buy that. Aging gracefully takes more dedication than many of us think. Aging gracefully involves a healthy diet, green juice and smoothies, hydration, sleep, stress reduction and a good dose of love and mental health. Forgiveness. Gratitude. Joy. Clearing the unfinished business in our lives. All this important work makes grace deposits into our aging bank account.

Two Keys to Lifetime Wellness and Vitality

Illness can be a magnificent teacher if you allow it. In the 18 months since I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, each day I learn something new about me or the world.

But not everyone I meet with this or other dis-eases is so open to illness being a teaching experience. I see the sadness that weighs on so many people that attend MS events. I hear it on facebook and forums. The message is, “I have given up joy.”

Be a Bargainista

Nutritious, whole, organic food can cost a pretty penny, especially if you’re not committed to investing time and energy into becoming a savvy shopper and proactive consumer. I’ve encountered every excuse and complaint in the book and believe me – I hear ya! Family, work and exhaustion are tough demons to tame when you’re staring at an empty dinner table, but let’s face it … Would you rather cut corners and save some money in the short term or spend more time planning, eating consciously, and shopping smart to ward off future hospital bills, prescription costs and long-term health issues? We all slip sometimes and that’s okay! But if you put forth the effort 80 to 90 percent of the time, you’re setting yourself up for increased energy, self-esteem, and happiness for you and your family on a daily basis.

On Healthy Eating: Battling the Comfort Food War Within

I just found an unopened box of Bulgar Wheat that has been in my cupboard for nigh on seven years. In fact, I would venture to say if I had room in my kitchen for every health food item I've purchased but never used, I would be making Top Ramen in a room the size of the Duomo in Milan.
