What Is Your Writing Ritual? 10 Tips On Connecting With Your Creative Process

Finished products sure do get a lot of attention, right? We’re not usually attending art shows of half-completed paintings or reading published work that stops midsentence. We don’t hear songs on the radio that trail off after the first verse, the vocalist pausing to say, “There’s going to be a rockin’ chorus here!” Finished products are fabulous and have an energy all their own – but man, do I dig the process. I absolutely love talking to artists about the journey – how they do what they do. That sculpture is beautiful, but how the heck did you get to that from a clump of clay?

Let's Talk About Coochies and Boobs

Greetings, Pinkies! Today we are beyond thrilled to publish the full introduction of Lissa's book What's Up Down There? Questions You'd Only Ask Your Gynecologist If She Was Your Best Friend in anticipation of the book's launch on September 28 (more info below). Enjoy!

Introduction: Let's Talk About Coochies and Boobs

Brrrrringgggg….The phone rings. Caller ID says it’s Chloe. I pick up.

All I hear are giggles. Then a snort, followed by a cackle.

“Chloe?” I say.

Chloe snorts again.  I shake my head and smile.

I hear someone yell, “Don’t say vagina so loud!”

They’ve done this before. Chloe and Piper are in Manhattan celebrating some girl time away from the kids, obviously talking about sex over a few cocktails. Whenever they think up questions about their girl parts, they call me. They are my best friends, and I am a gynecologist.

Feed Your Love Every Day (And Other Wise Women Gems)

Because I was jet-setting back and forth to New York City for Mama Gena's School of Womanly Arts over the past four months, I had the pleasure of adding Sister Goddess Kate Northrup Moller to my list of soul sisters. Although some who don't know her like to define Kate as the daughter of Dr. Christiane Northrup, I know that Kate as much as Kate adores her mother, she doesn't need to borrow the spotlight from her famous Mama because she shines a radiant, sparkly light all her own. Kate is a CEO (Creative Expansion Optimist), multi-passionate entrepreneur, budding yogini, dancer, researcher on what it takes to thrive, and seeker -- just like many of us. I was so honored chat with her, and the rest of these amazing women, and hope you find some nuggets of inspiration, connection, and mojo from what we had to say. -- Lissa Rankin, MD, founder of Owning Pink

No Two Leaps Of Faith Are Alike

We talk a lot at Owning Pink - and in our society - about leaps of faith. Here at Owning Pink we have a special variety, the kind that you take when you're following signs from the Universe towards your highest calling. We call these Pink Leaps of Faith (or, Pleaps for short).

Waiting and Becoming... Easier Said Than Done!

Something has come over me. For months now I have been telling myself it will pass, but after this long, I cannot keep saying it. It would be a lie if I continued to act as though this space I am in is not part of who I am. If it weren’t, I wouldn’t be in it. Last week I wrote myself out of this space and referred to it as “the funk.” A day later I felt fine. However, I had an eerie sensation the funk would soon return.

LeBron James: On Following Dreams

LeBron James, following your dreams

I would not call myself a sports enthusiast. My limited participation involves cold Sunday afternoons when I turn on a football game so that I can take a nap. It’s a comfort thing. There’s usually roast beast simmering in a fruity Pinot Noir in the oven, flakes of snow tumbling down outside the window, and me curled up on the couch. I turn the volume down low and doze to the sounds of whistles and that same cadence of the commentator’s voice that I’ve been hearing for the past thirty-some years (with the exception of Howard Cosell, of course).

SEEing With Magical Eyes on a New York Subway

I’m sitting on the 1 Train of the NYC subway as I write this. It’s rush hour, so there are people everywhere. I’m lucky to have a seat next to a lovely older woman who is looking over my shoulder and smiling. When I went to New York for the first time and talked about how I was going to ride the subway instead of taking cabs, people from my hometown looked at me sideways, as if I had a death wish. “If you must, don’t look anyone in the eye,” someone said, and I never forgot it.

How to be Queen of Your Own Life

When I saw authors Kathy Kinney (of The Drew Carey Show fame) and her long time BFF Cindy Ratzlaff on television recently talking about their new book Queen of Your Own Life, I knew I had to bring them to Owning Pink. Their messages of empowerment, sisterhood, honoring and respecting the aging process, and FUN are so uber-Pink (as is the fabulous book that I couldn't put down).  Three cheers for two very deserving Queenwho couldn't be more lovely. Take a seat of your own throne, put on your crown, and let's chat with Kathy and Cindy...

Honor Yourself With a Program of Radical Self-Care

I dreamt this post last night, which rarely happens, but when it does, I figure the Universe is trying to thwack me over the head, and I better pay attention. So I’ll transcribe my dream, in case this wisdom comes not just for me, but for you.

Truth is, I’ve been neglecting my own health a bit lately. Which, as a doctor promoting optimal vitality and wellness, feels damn hypocritical. It’s just that the madness of opening the Owning Pink Center, the crazy nuttiness of relaunching OwningPink.com later this month as a big, grown-up website, and the TV/radio/print/internet media publicity I’ve been doing around both have thrown me completely off kilter.
