Spirituality Keeps Women – And Men – Happy, Healthy & Whole

spirituality

According to the latest Gallup-Healthways research, if you’re a woman between the age of 45 and 55, you’re most likely to be happy if you’re from California, live in a household that brings in at least $120,000 a year, eat plenty of fruits and veggies, and exercise six times a week.

It’s also likely that religion and/or spirituality play an important role in your daily life.

A Quest For Religion: Finding my Tribe

spirit guide

I have a confession to make and I feel pretty damn vulnerable putting fingers to keys around it.

(No, I haven’t been watching The Bachelor.)

You ready?

Find Affirmation in Groups!

We all want a special place

As infants and toddlers we begin to learn the ways in which we can get recognized. In some cases it’s cooing and smiling, in other cases it’s crying and screaming. We watch the reactions of those around us and we act accordingly so we can have our own valued role in this exclusive group known as family.

Religion, Misunderstood: A Reply to "Make Love, Not Burning Qurans"

Yesterday, I read Lissa Rankin’s article “Make Love, Not Burned Qurans” and started to reply to some of her questions: “Why must we let our faith divide us, rather than unite us? Why can’t you let me believe what I believe, I’ll let you believe what you believe, and we can love each other anyway? Why must we let religion, hatred, and fear get between us and the Divine? If God is love, where is the God in this church? And what are we to do about it?” As I got into my reply, however, I realized I had an entire post inside of me. Graciously, the Owning Pink editorial staff agreed to let me write a response.

Make Love, Not Burned Qurans

A church in Gainesville, Florida is planning on burning a stack of Qurans on September 11, the anniversary of the terrorist attacks on our country -- and I, for one,  just have to scream, “NO! This is not the answer!” We are not a nation based on hate or discrimination. Fighting hatred with hatred serves nobody and hurts many.

Politicians from both sides of the red/blue divide (from Hillary Clinton and Obama’s advisors to Sarah Palin), as well as the Pope, General Petraeus, and almost 9000 people on a Facebook page aimed at stopping the madness all agree that this is simply preposterous, disgraceful, and un-American. Not to wax poetic about revolutionary war values, but this country was based on religious freedom first and foremost. How can we condemn those who act out of fear and hatred to hurt those in this country if some of us are doing the same? Didn’t this Gainesville church learn anything in kindergarten or Sunday School -- like “two wrongs don’t make a right” and “love thy neighbor as thyself?” I mean seriously, people. Grow up.

Can You Have Mojo If You’re Agnostic?

Please welcome Pink community member Mattie, here with some thoughts that are no doubt shared by many. Thank you, Mattie, for bringing this important point to light.

I’ve been reading Owning Pink almost every day since Lissa started writing last year, and I love what Owning Pink is all about. Whether it’s about being authentic, health, creativity, or loving community, I’m all over it, and it resonates with who I feel I truly am. But one thing keeps tripping me up - I don’t believe in God. I just don’t. I kind of wish I did. I love the idea of a loving Universe that guides our paths and lobs signs at us like a big Daddy throwing balls at a Little League game.
