I thought I’d wait until the day after Valentine’s Day to be a buzzkill, just in case you get off on it. But I despise Valentine’s Day more and more every year that passes.
Dear Valentine’s Day,
When I was in kindergarten, you were fun. Little cards appearing in the shoebox I decorated with hearts and cut a hole in made me feel special, and watching Rusty Robbin’s face when he saw the packet of candy hearts I gave just to him made me squeal with delight.

Of course the brilliant Tama Kieves of Awakening Artistry is going to love us -- and remind us to love ourselves -- into Valentine's Day. Thanks, Tama!
Valentine's Day is upon us: lingerie, dark chocolate, roses, and a whole lot of chances to feel bad about yourself -- for not swinging from a chandelier with that special someone -- or anyone, and maybe for having three double chins that get more swinging action than you do. But I'm thinking it's time to have Cupid shoot a new kind of arrow through your heart. It's the kind that makes you vow eternal love for yourself, get down on bended knee, and write love poems that barely scratch the surface of how much you appreciate the chance to go through this lifetime, as yourself and none other.

As the New Year approaches, I can’t help but think that I am not the embodiment of who I truly feel I am. Every year I make the same resolution -- to lose weight. Some years it works, but over time the weight always comes back. This year the change must go deeper, it must be a spiritual journey towards embracing my entire self-the shadows and the light. This year I will own my health!

Do you ever feel like you’ve cheated yourself – sacrificed your wants, needs and values – by lying about how you feel -- perhaps for someone else’s sake? How often have you wanted to say NO but instead responded with Yes to please others?
In our world of dualities, it seems like there is always a choice – yes or no, good or bad, right or wrong – and there is always someone bombarding us with their answer. But how do you determine your answer?

This weekend I saw the much-anticipated movie based on Elizabeth Gilbert’s best selling book, Eat, Pray, Love. The story is based on Gilbert’s own Pleap of all Pleaps (Pink leap of faith) -- for a year following her divorce she lived first in Italy, then India, and finally in Bali. Her goal was to find herself and learn to live again.
Like many who have read her book, I envied Gilbert for the courage to take this journey -- not just to these foreign countries, but to the foreign land of giving up control and giving into universal love. I loved the book and was eagerly anticipating the film version.

We all know that media dictates and culture accepts what “good” body image is. These mere words are enough to, at best, get my teeth grinding and at worst, create food issues in in the minds of young women everywhere. In the interest of transparency, I’m letting you know I’m a size 0 because I'm both naturally athletic (read: healthy) and because I’m short (yet another media “negative” body image, but one I embrace in my usual Snap!-like way). I've thus escaped having some of these body image issues myself. So why am I writing this?

The spiritual path is beautiful, ugly, profound and ordinary all at once. It comes full of elusive aspirations, emotional dramas, transcendent bliss and everything else in between – and frankly, it can sometimes feel like living in a terrifying hell, or in a pristine heaven, or at other times just simply boring and pointless.
