Amp Up Your Sexy With Men (Avoid These 3 Missteps)

So what is it about the woman that always gets the guy?  You know who I’m talking about.

Every guy you know thinks she’s cool/smart/funny.  Men get giddy around her.  Conversations stall when she walks into a room.

Stop Posing. Start Living.

At photo shoots, women sometimes tiptoe about waiting for me to guide them and micromanage their every move; their heads, hands, how to hold their shoulders and position their feet. Before long, they’ve become awkward and soulless.

Trick or Treat: Making Anorexia Sexy?

My first response when I saw this sexy anorexia costume was complete and utter outrage. As a recovered bulimic who still battles with body image issues, it's still hard to get a firm grip on accepting the reflection in the mirror and ignoring what I see on the cover of celebrity magazines. But then I shared the story with a friend who I assumed would be just as mad as I was - due to her own struggles with body image - and her response was, essentially, "Lighten up. Humor is a good response to serious issues. It gets people talking..."

11 Reasons To Share This Post With Every Woman You Know

women

I’m a gynecologist who once wrote a never-published memoir called “I Don’t Do Men,” so it should come as no surprise that I adore women. No - I’m not gay (though my standard "I don't do men" brush off got rid of many lecherous men in bars who hit on me with pick up lines like "Will you be my doctor?") As much as I also adore lesbians, I kind of have a thing for chest hair. And dude-shaped biker legs.

But sexual preference aside, I have ultimate respect for the awesomeness of my gender.

Women sometimes get a bad rap. We call each other “catty.” We turn each other into “frenemies.”  They make movies about Mean Girls

Hillary Clinton Erased From Historic White House Photo

women erased historic white house photo

Women have been erased from history for millennia. Countless courageous events led by women have gone unwritten or rewritten in the history books. Yet, in the age of feminism in modern times, we assume this doesn’t happen anymore, right?

Wrong.

According to CNN, the uber-Orthodox Jewish publication Di Tzeitung, a Hasidic newspaper based in Brooklyn, New York, whited out Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Audrey Tomason, director of counterterrorism from the now iconic “Situation Room Photo” take while President Obama monitored the raid on bin Laden’s compound.

Just like that. Zip. Gone. The two women present no longer exist with a swipe of Photoshop.

What I Learned From Six Inch Stripper Shoes

learned stripper shoes

I woke up to this sentence in my inbox last Tuesday:

Next week we will dance in the stripper shoes if you are ready to go there.

No, I haven’t ditched my day job—a few weeks ago I embarked upon my S Factor journey, slipping into a dark dance studio with seven other women to discover our “erotic creatures” under the glow of the red light (check out my first post here). A few classes in and we’re upping our game—literally. About six inches or so.

The Search for the Perfect Panties

Comfort over Beauty

In this new year of owning and embracing all of me, I must admit when it comes down to it, I’m going to choose comfort over beauty 99% of the time. I can look in my closet right now and see short skirts and high heel shoes I purchased in an attempt to look sexy, only to wear them once and never again. I cringe just looking at women in spiked heels and skinny jeans. Somehow I just can’t bring myself to compromise the free and satisfying feeling of loose clothing and flip-flops.

Needless to say, and much to my husband’s dismay, my underwear drawer doesn’t hold many contents from the Victoria's Secret collection. I have spent a great many years searching for the perfect pair of panties, amidst the inner tug between wanting to feel comfortable and sexy.

Pinkies, it is my honor to introduce to you (straight from The Pink Community) Kellie Robinson. Having known Kellie since High School, watching the life she's led (through social media,) and then reuniting on a more spiritual level in the Pinkdom; it is no surprise the intense sensation of interconnectedness is present no matter the roles we played in our adolescence. Thank you Kellie for bringing your story of reigniting our inner flames to the surface. Through sharing your truth, others will be inspired to share theirs; no one could have said it better. -- Megan Monique

Owning Your Inner Nerd

My daughter came home from school last week, sobbing, because one of the kids in her preschool called her a nerd. While I stroked her hair and wiped her tears, I flashed back 25 years to when I was fifteen. The head cheerleader, who was my secret friend, turned away from me at the lunch table. Standing there, holding my green plastic tray with my soggy hamburger, limp fries, and orange juice, I saw the apology in her cheerleader eyes when she said, “This is not the nerd table.”
