Many years ago my great grandfather told me of the persecution he experienced in Russia which led him to come to this country. He said the Cossacks would pursue him at night, when he was out teaching, and slash him with their sabers. One night he was on the hill above his village with his rabbi, the Baal Shem Tov. As they looked down they could see the Cossacks riding down and killing their Jewish brethren. They might have felt the same had they seen their loved ones being taken away to become slaves in a foreign land.

I am currently writing the hardest chapter in my book Mind Over Medicine: Scientific Proof You Can Heal Yourself. Any time you write about self-healing, one painful issue comes up for any sick person. “If I can heal myself and I’m still sick, is it my fault?”
As a healer at heart, I think blame, guilt and shame have no place in the therapeutic relationship, but how should I address the fact that we have the power to heal ourselves without blaming sick people for their illnesses?

My mother has been sick for many years on and off. It first started with breast cancer back when I was in high school. She beat it and was fine for about six years. Then for the past three years she has had different cancers on and off. It started with this weird lung cancer. . . I never quite understood, but apparently it was related to breast cancer (she doesn’t smoke). She actually hid it from my brother and me for a year, because she tried healing herself first. Ever since the first time she got cancer, she’s been working on herself, meditating, learning to love herself and her life, and even reading your books/listening to your CDs!

We suffer from decreased libido, lack of spiritual connection, insomnia, anxiety, and other vague symptoms.

When I was learning to be a doctor, the focus was on making the sick well, but there was a huge piece missing from what they taught me in my medical education. Nobody ever taught me that, as doctors, it’s our job to help people become, not just well, but whole.
After all, our job is to help people heal - and “to heal” means “to become whole.” But what does that mean? Here’s what it means to me.

I was so sick. I had been vomiting every day, several times a day for about a week. If I wasn't running to the bathroom I was laying on the couch unable to function as a result of this strange "June Flu." This flu of mine was so severe that I had even called off work a few times in the last two weeks AND this flu was so body altering that I wasn't even getting my period.

A Pinkie just posted a comment in response to Fred Kraziese’s post God, Angels, Life and Moving On, and it inspired me to write a few words about the secrets that we keep. We learn to keep secrets from the time we’re very young.
